VP40 - Phase 2: Passion (The Early Years)

Celebrating 40 Years of Creativity and Innovation: Video Pool Media Arts Centre's Mid-Life Crisis Party

Video Pool Media Arts Centre is thrilled to announce our upcoming 40th-anniversary party Phase 2: Passion (The Early Years) taking place on September 22, 2023 and commemorating the organizations first two decades. We hope you can join us for a celebration of VP’S history. Since 1983 VP has been pushing boundaries and fostering creativity; this event promises to be a spectacular fusion of art, festivities, and memories, featuring Video works from: Sharon Alward, Alex Poruchnyk, Ho Tam, Zachery Cameron, Longboy, Wendy Geller, Theo Jean Cuthand, Shawna Dempsey and Lorri Millan, Ryan Takatsu, Jeff Gillman, Alethea Lahofer, & Daniel Barrow, plus interactive works from Lumo Interactive and Joshua Banman.

The Mid-Life Crisis Party wouldn't be the same without plenty of enjoyment. Participate in a variety of interactive games that will transport you back to the '80s and '90s pop culture era. Dance to some lesser-known tracks – we promise it won't be Journey and Nirvana all night - thanks to our DJs. Share your cherished VP memory in our MuchMusic-inspired (no lawsuits, please) Speaker's Corner, and savour delicious food from our chosen caterer, beverages from Low Life Barrel House and our soon to be announced wine supplier.

Original Poster Art

We've been digging through the archive and have unearthed some gorgeous original artwork from VP's past. We'll be selling limited edition signed prints from original poster artwork.

Embracing the Mid-Life Crisis

Our Passion phase leans into VP’s early days and the people and artworks who helped define it. Our thematic anniversary programming takes a playful twist on the "mid-life crisis" concept, moving through the telltale stages of a portentous milestone as we look back on our vibrant past,

Revisit Works from the VPMAC Catalogue

Since the beginning, VP has been building an extensive catalogue of video art from the Prairies and beyond. We’re excited to showcase a selection of these works from the 80s-90s. Witness a snapshot of the phenomenal works which occupy our storied and eclectic catalogue. Voices ahead of their time, this exhibition pays homage to the brilliant and innovative artists who laid the foundation for our dynamic community.
