About
Step into the trees, and find a small cabin glowing softly from within. "óFukami: Ancient Future" is a durational light and sound installation, its translucent walls wired to a nearby tree, whose living signal generates ambient music through the night, drifting and shifting like a meditation.
Watch slowly dissolving black-and-white portraits move across the cabin's walls, families and faces from the past, looking back. At the top of every hour, the cabin blooms into colour: óFukami (Keri Latimer) performs live inside, weaving looped theremin and voice with the tree's signal, before the space settles back into stillness.
This piece is about memory, lineage, and the histories we carry in the land beneath us. The cabin's form echoes the modest lodgings of the displaced, including the artist's own Japanese Canadian family. Stay a while, join in movement, lay down on the grass, wander off, and come back.
Free to experience. All ages welcome. Best viewed after dark, and best understood slowly.

óFukami (Keri Latimer)
óFukami is the experimental sound project of Winnipeg-based composer, songwriter, and thereminist Keri Latimer, a Juno Award winner known for blending live theremin, voice, and looped electronics with bio-sensing technology that translates the electrical signals of living plants into music. She has contributed music to the Academy Award-nominated film Frozen River, and has appeared as a featured soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, including the Canadian premiere of Björk's Family for Strings. Year round, her work moves between touring with her band Leaf Rapids, film scoring, and interdisciplinary sound projects like óFukami that explore memory, transformation, and the living world through technology.
