About

Join New Music Concerts for an immersive experience that introduces audiences to the world of contemporary music. Through a friendly presentation by Artistic Director Brian Current, we will explore the textures and colours of new classical music, offering insights and techniques for first-time listeners to engage with 21st-century compositions. Enjoy captivating 10-15 minute performances by Flutist, Sophie Lanthier, blending acoustic and electronic music, followed by pauses to allow new audiences to drift through the space. This participatory event provides a unique window into understanding and appreciating the nuances of modern musical expressions.

Sophie Lanthier is a Toronto-based flutist dedicated to contemporary and orchestral music, with a focus on programming works by women composers. She performs with the Toronto Alternative Chamber Orchestra, the Ontario Philharmonic, and various Southern Ontario orchestras, and she was recently featured as a soloist with the Oakville Symphony Orchestra. Alongside her performance career, Sophie teaches at Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Toronto, and Branksome Hall, and she is completing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Toronto.

New Music Concerts is a leader in curating, performing, and promoting innovative and cutting-edge music by Canadian and international composers. NMC is internationally renowned and unique in Toronto as the foremost champion of contemporary works for large chamber ensemble.

Established in 1971, Trinity Square is Canada’s oldest media arts organization and one of its pioneering artist-run centres. For five decades, this non-profit has played a vital role in advancing media arts, providing a platform for artistic experimentation and innovation. Trinity Square supports artists and curators through educational initiatives, production assistance, and exhibition opportunities, with a focus on broadening the scope of media arts. Committed to inclusivity, the centre prioritizes diverse perspectives and aims to break down barriers related to race, gender, and accessibility while fostering the creation of new and impactful works.

Organizer

Ontario Culture Days

The Ontario Culture Days Festival is an annual celebration of arts, culture and heritage taking place each fall across the province. Each year, we work with organizers of all disciplines to produce this province-wide festival. Organizers host programs throughout Ontario and invite the public to participate for free.

Ontario Culture Days lives at the local level. We support organizers from the smallest hamlets to the largest cities, while coordinating with other national and provincial Culture Days partners. We support the success of our sector colleagues through resources and network development, while highlighting the breadth and heterogeneity of Ontario’s arts and culture to the wider public.
