About

FREE EXHIBITION TOURS On-Site or Online

Visit the Richmond Art Gallery's latest exhibition, "A Practice in Gestures" featuring artists Farheen HaQ, Deborah Koenker, Bev Koski, Mitra Mahmoodi, Bettina Matzkuhn, Barbara Zeigler.

This exhibition draws together works by BC artists Farheen HaQ, Deborah Koenker, Bev Koski, Mitra Mahmoodi, Bettina Matzkuhn, and Barbara Zeigler. Ordinary gestures underpin and give shape to the rituals that rise from the embroidery, beading, ceramic and video works comprising A Practice in Gestures. While such activities such as stitching, washing, and serving are rooted in seemingly benign domestic familiarity, they foreground colonial and patriarchal narratives as well as critical environmental imperatives.
