About

This workshop, organized and hosted by Architecture49, invites people to come together in a creative act of unity, belonging, and shared identity as Winnipeggers. Rooted in the tradition of patchwork quilts—objects that have long symbolized protection, comfort, and community—participants will first design their own unique fabric “patch” as an expression of self and culture. Each patch becomes a deeply personal symbol, reflecting the individual stories, backgrounds, and voices that make up the fabric of the city.

In the second session, these individual pieces will be joined to form a single collective quilt, visually embodying the idea that while we are unique, we are stronger and more beautiful when connected. The finished quilt will stand as a powerful metaphor: we are never alone, but part of a greater whole that protects, embraces, and celebrates diversity. Displayed in public spaces and shared online, the quilt will not only showcase creative expression but also spark reflection on the power of community and the strength that comes from weaving together many voices into one.
