Richmond Hill Heritage Centre – 19 Church Street North

Yonge Street, Richmond Hill’s “Main Street” was established by order of Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simcoe in the 1790s. Envisioned as a military road from the Town of York (Toronto) to Holland Landing. Yonge Street served a more significant role in history, bringing settlers and commerce northward from York, to found new communities. By the early 19th century, some of the frontages along Yonge Street were subdivided and sold for the development of businesses, homes and institutions – creating the core of a new village.

Rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.

The Richmond Hill Heritage Centre preserves and celebrates our community heritage. The building is an 1840s Regency style cottage, fully restored to reflect this historical period.
