About

Let us help you fill out your genealogy tree and let our research assistant volunteers guide you to get started.

We have themed events for you to come out and learn more about family history in Manitoba and beyond. Please know that young or old, individually or with a family member are welcome to visit on any of our three days.

Genealogy is often an adult pastime, but parents or grandparents can bring a child to come out a family tree chart with them.

We'll give you:

*One free pedigree chart per family group & some smaller family charts if needed

*Free research assistance by our volunteer members

We ask all visitors to book a time when they are planning to come if possible, from either 10 - noon or noon - 2.

Although our events are free, we ask you to register by emailing us at: [email protected]

Our Culture Days events take place from 10am to noon & noon to 2pm on:

-September 24 for 'Start Your Family Tree' &

-October 1 for 'Parent/Grandparent & Child' at the Western Manitoba Regional Library, 710 Rosser Avenue, Unit 1 in Brandon &

October 8 for South West Branch of MGS 'Open House' - tour our facility and our volunteers will answer any questions on genealogical research & our resources at the Margaret E Goodman Library in Knox United Church, 451 - 18th Street in Brandon.

All are welcome - individually or as a family group on any of the three days. You can just drop in but we cannot guarantee research assistance if we have bookings.

Organizer

South West Branch of Manitoba Genealogical Society

Manitoba Genealogical Society Inc. (MGS) is a genealogical organization that promotes genealogical research and the writing of family histories. We are a registered charity with three branches in Manitoba, founded in 1976 & incorporated in 1982.

The South West Branch of MGS was founded in 1978 and maintains the Margaret E. Goodman Library located in Knox United Church in Brandon.

We provide programming opportunities for our members to meet throughout the year & participate in public events to promote genealogy & assist newcomers to family history to get started on their own journey. Let our volunteers provide you with assistance whether you are a new researcher or a seasoned genealogist!
