From Ymir, a small town in the Kootenays, we have Damian John. Damian is an acrylic and graphic painter, as well as a poet with a focus on how to create beauty in the world. He uses deep, saturated colour to present deep, saturated storytelling. As a member of the Tl’azt’en First Nation, his art reflects the deep influence of his First Nations culture in his life. He proudly represents his people in his art, always trying to bring to the table the quality of hard work and high level craftsmanship.

Get to know Damian’s creative process and methodology, as well as his experience of being a 2020 Ambassador for BC Culture Days. Find out more about his mentorship with interdisciplinary artist Sonny Assu and how this connection helped him with creating his event.
