About

Join creator and performer khattieQ for a morning of conversation and song. Witness her transformation into Catalina La O.

Catalina La O presenta: Ahora conmigo is a performance in progress, inspired by the lives of female Puerto Rican legends Myrta Silva, Ruth Fernández, and Lucecita Benítez. Punk rock aesthetic collides with dramatic love ballads of 1970’s and 80’s to share a heartbreaking and humorous story of resilience and resistance.

Catalina La O is a piece for the queer community. It is a piece for the colonized body. It is a piece for women. It is a piece for Puerto Rico. It is a piece for the non-gender binary. It is a piece for anyone who has experienced heartbreak. It is a piece for survivors. It is a piece that speaks to resistance.

JK JK

JK JK is performance art created by khattieq (musician/performer) and Jenny Larson (director and performer). The couple creates collaboratively-devised queer performance art to magnify stories of the disenfranchised and disrupt the status quo.

khattie and Jenny began working together in 2015 as part of Adrienne Dawes’ Denim Doves (a play devised with Salvage Vanguard Theater in Austin, TX). They have been artists-in-residence at the Osage Arts Community in Belle, MO (2016) and performed in the Finland edition of Unlived Lives (originally devised by Ida Daniel, Jenny Larson, Todor Stoyanov, and Graham Reynolds) as part of the Kaustinen 50th Anniversary Folk Music Festival. JK JK are currently collaborating with playwright Adrienne Dawes on her work-in-progress Casta (sponsored by the Blanton Museum of Art and National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures). Casta will premiere as part of their Painted Cloth: Fashion and Ritual in Colonial Latin America exhibit in 2021.
