The City of Vaughan’s Lab “You Are Hear Project (YAHP)” responds to the City’s Youth Engagement Strategy and will provide participating youth a unique opportunity to develop their creative talents through the arts and also be mentored to learn how their talents could potentially become an avenue to earning a living. The target audience has been a challenge to reach and retain with traditional programming and one that has limited options in creative programming across the city.
Through partnerships with community organizations, professional and emerging community artists, YAHP will provide accessible weekly workshops that are current and engaging to cultivate creative expression through spoken word, music, recording and video studio access. The partners look towards a goal of engaging 40 – 45 youth in this intensive program.
This Lab program dovetails with Ontario Culture Days Youth Arts Ambassador Program (YAAP); one of the YAAP community artists is participating in this Lab.
Targeted Audience: Youth 13 - 19 years old
Lab Leader: Mirella Tersigni, Cultural Development Officer – City Wide, Economic Development and Culture Division of the City of Vaughan
Partners: Economic Development and Culture Division of the City of Vaughan, Vaughan Public Libraries; Render Media Inc.; I. A.M. Intergenerational Group; Vaughan Enterprise Centre; Speakerboxx
