About

This series of oil paintings by artist Margaret Hantiuk is based on wintertime travels to Mexico, chronicling the annual migration of retired Canadians to warmer climes.

This collision of two very different cultures creates an interesting narrative: the ‘snowbirds’ are at leisure while the Mexicans are struggling to get by, but the Mexicans are at home, the snowbirds are not: the climate, terrain and culture are a dislocation.

In addition to the self-guided tour, visitors may also review images and video of the artist online at our website link below.

Visiting the Gallery

Exhibition Dates: Friday, Sept 26 - Sunday, Oct 11, 2020

Weekends Only: Sat/Sun: 11am-4pm

Please note that we have implemented a Covid-19 Plan for visitors to Xchanges Gallery and Studios starting in September 2020:

*Visitors will enter the facility through the west gate and proceed east down the balcony to the Gallery doors.

*If the weather permits, windows and doors will remain open to allow for more ventilation.

*The capacity limit for the Gallery exhibition is 4 Visitors plus the sitting artist.

*Visitors will be required to sanitize their hands at the sanitizing station and will be required to provide a name/phone number for contact tracing purposes. This list will be destroyed after a suitable time frame.

*Visitors and the sitting artist(s) will be required to stay a minimum of 2 meters apart from each other.

*Masks are highly recommended and Xchanges will have non-medical masks available, however at this point they are not mandatory. This may change with changing Provincial health guidelines.

*Visitors may still control their own flow in the Gallery if they maintain social distance requirements.

*Visitors will leave Xchanges via the Gallery door (it will be a two-way door) and will exit down the east gate. As the Gallery door has windows, it is easy for *Visitors to see and control their position around other people.
