The Finnish Society of Edmonton will host a film screening of "The People of Sointula" by Pirkko Karvonen. In 1900 Maati Kurikka led a group of Finns into the wilderness of Canada to form a utopian society they called Sointula. Pirkko was producer/director for this film which garnered her a Best Documentary nomination at the 2002 Alberta Film and Television Awards. The Finnish Society provides cultural, recreational, heritage and educational programs.
