What Did You Not Notice Today?

10 Carden (main floor) Guelph, Ontario

Visual Arts, Architecture — Talks and Discussion, Collective Creation

By addressing what we do NOT notice every day, AHMRI + ABBY will lead a roundtable discussion about paying closer attention to your surroundings and familiar spaces. In their artistic practice, they cover these themes by challenging the notion of a traditional white-box gallery and highlighting the under-considered. In conjunction with their installation at 10 Carden, this discussion will be interactive, foster critical and experimental thinking, and be a platform for idea-sharing. This is an open conversation about how humans absorb information, and how art has the power to dictate the theatrics of visual perception. AHMRI + ABBY will take a twist on the conventional artist talk and leave participants with a more conscious way of navigating through their surroundings.

AHMRI + ABBY are emerging artists collaborating to create ongoing installations which aim to make their viewers renegotiate and rethink their surroundings. Their site-specific installations are created through the process of response and intuition within existing spaces. In past work, they have highlighted the unnoticed aspects of everyday life, including themes of construction/deconstruction, subtleties of architecture, and challenging intention versus happenstance. They consider their installations as active collaborations between viewer, space, and artist.
