Elgin County Heritage Centre
The Elgin County Museum exists to promote Elgin County’s rich historical and agricultural heritage by acquiring, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting artifacts pertaining to the history of the County of Elgin; and to provide leadership and support to County museums in the promotion of a heritage partnership. The new Elgin County Heritage Centre is now open. It is located next to the Elgin County Administration Building where the museum will continue to operate on the fourth floor. The new Centre will feature a series of changing exhibitions and a permanent space called Talbot’s Castle. Here, part of Col. Talbot’s ancestral castle, Malahide, has been recreated to set the stage for the story of how he settled southwestern Ontario. Visitors will be able to see armour, furnishings and a 10 foot tall rendering of Robert the Bruce.
