Pioneering Culture DaysDidsbury, Alberta
Heritage, Literature and Spoken Word — Talks and Discussion, Hands-On Activity
Takes place in the beautiful Zion Church at the east entrance to Didsbury. The first church was for the Mennonite Brethren, the settlers of German, Swiss, and Dutch descent whose culture and traditions are being showcased. The weekend includes a Faspa (lots and lots of food), a Gathering (music, singers, drummers, historical stories, & storytellers). Old-fashioned games like crokinole, Dutch Blitz, German Circle Games. Always wanted to know how to quilt? Now's your chance to see a Quilting Bee in action! Plus, antique tractors for kids to climb on, floor tiles to paint, and Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides of Shantz Street. There's an "Are You Mennonite?" station at the Library, and A vast quilt collection at the Museum, some from 1800s.
