This Editorial Policy enables content makers and the public to understand the editorial and ethical principles that are fundamental to Culture365 (the “Blog”). As an editorial content provider, the Blog, managed and owned by The Stratford Shakespearean Festival of Canada, strives to achieve and support the high standards in content creation, aggregation, and distribution through good judgment and a commitment to editorial principles, practices and process. The Editorial Policy also seeks to reflect the standards that Culture Days audiences can reasonably expect of the Blog.
Culture365 was created to serve Canadian artists, arts and heritage organizations, cultural groups and the public. Culture365 is an initiative of Culture Days, which, as stated in its mission, believes that every individual - regardless of age, location or experience - has the right to access and participate actively in arts and culture. With this principle in mind, Culture365 strives to:
- Foster appreciation and support for the artistic and cultural life that is lived, created and expressed across the country in urban, suburban and rural areas alike.
- Promote direct interaction between creators and citizens, as a key to increasing understanding and appreciation of art and culture.
- Affirm that every citizen is the guardian of the cultural life of his or her community.
To reflect these principles in the content of the Blog, the editorial team populates this Blog with the following types of posts:
- Inspiring stories, first-hand experience, and news emerging from Culture Days, throughout Canada and the world that can invoke a “can do” attitude.
- Educational and professional development resources, tips and tools, and information that can enable artists to develop new approaches to reach and engage the public as well as for the public to actively increase their participation and engagement with arts and culture.
- Time-specific announcements that inform readers of relevant upcoming arts and cultural events across Canada and the world.
Culture365 consists of three main categories: Inspiration, Resources, and Events. Each category may incorporate original content (including, for example, stories identified or produced by Culture Days’ staff), aggregated content (including, for example, stories produced by others on the Internet, sourced with hyperlinks and credentials), and user-submitted content.
The logic behind these categories is that,
- they inspire, recognize and share exemplary strategies, actions and resources;
- they support, guide and contribute to knowledge sharing and exchange; and
- they inform readers in a timely manner about relevant upcoming events happening across Canada and throughout the world.
