Culture Days 2010

Thank you to everyone who supported and participated in the inaugural 2010 Culture Days event!

The response and enthusiastic participation by the Canadian public and the arts and cultural community this past September was fantastic.  Over 4,500 free hands-on, participatory activities and events in some 700 cities and towns across Canada attracted millions of Canadians to celebrate and become more familiar with the incredible diversity and creativity of artists and cultural groups in their communities.

Independent Survey Results

Canadian research firm The Strategic Counsel was commissioned to produce an independent study on the impacts and outcomes of Canada’s first Culture Days. Here are the highlights from October 2010 surveys of the Canadian public, Culture Days activity organizers and non-participating organizations:

  • Three quarters of people who participated in Culture Days activities were very satisfied, and 90% of those in participating communities say they are likely to participate in Culture Days next year.
  • Over 70% of people who participated in Culture Days activities believe that it will inspire people to attend more locally based events in future.
  • Over 67% believe that Culture Days has increased awareness of how artists and arts organizations make a positive contribution to the community.
  • 86% of Culture Days activity organizers report that they are very likely or likely to participate in Culture Days next year.
