Ontario Celebrates Arts and Culture

The arts add tremendous richness to communities across Ontario. The Ontario government recognizes this important contribution and welcomes Culture Days, Canada’s nation-wide interactive celebration of arts and culture, by designating the weekend of September 28-30 as ‘Celebrate our Artists Weekend’.

Since 2007, Ontario has selected one weekend during the year to officially celebrate Ontario artists for their dedication and inspiration. We encourage you to get involved! Learn more about Culture Days and find activities in your area.

Then, help your favourite Ontario artist or arts organization gain prestigious recognition through the 2013 Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. Now entering its seventh year, the awards are an opportunity for you to nominate an artist or arts organization for outstanding achievements over a significant period of time. The 2012 laureates  were playwright/filmmaker Shirley Cheechoo and Tarragon Theatre.

Enter your nomination today!

You can nominate established artists and arts organizations engaged in a variety of disciplines – including (but not limited to) literature, media arts, music, theatre, visual arts or cultural industries, book and magazine publishing, digital media, film, television and sound recording.

The award is conferred in two categories: an individual artist award and an arts organization award. Details about the awards, guidelines and nomination forms are on the Ontario Arts Council website.
